Background & Experience
Mike Rothschadl has dedicated more than three decades to serving and protecting the communities he calls home.
He began his law enforcement career in the United States Navy, followed by four years as a Department of Defense Police Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy. After returning to South Dakota, Mike served as a Corrections Officer with the South Dakota Department of Corrections in Springfield from 1996–1999.
In 1999, Mike joined the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and ultimately Chief Deputy from 2012–2022. During this time, he helped lead operations and support deputies in protecting the community.
Mike also served with the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office before returning to Yankton.
In 2023, Mike moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where he continued serving in law enforcement as a Patrol Deputy and School Resource Officer with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Mike is running for Sheriff to bring experienced leadership, fiscal responsibility, and transparency back to the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office while ensuring deputies have the support they need to keep our communities safe.
